Solid Surface

Pros

Durable - Solid surface has seamless features which make it consistent all throughout. There are no cracks or chips to start the damage and it is very resistant towards impact

Non Porous - Materials that are porous can absorb moisture where mold and mildew might proliferate. Solid surface's ability to be joined to the sink creates a water tight transition for any hidden moist areas.

Easy Maintenance - Its homogenous quality allows you to easily wipe down stains. Soap, mild household cleaning agents and water is sufficient for cleaning.

Easy Repair - Scratches or cigarette burns can be easily sanded out by yourself for easy repair works without incurring high repair cost.

Versatility - Solid surface can be fabricated and shaped to fit into any space.

Cons

Deep Scratch - Solid surface can be damaged when you cut on it directly or heat may even cause cracks in solid surface material.

Dis-colour - Moisture and heat will cause the material to change de-colourise. 

Harsh Chemicals - Nail polish, oven cleaning agents, paint removers or thinner lacquers will easily damage the countertop when exposed to these chemicals.

Economic - Overall an inexpensive solution for a countertop when compared to other materials.

Solid Surface

 

Quartz

Pros

Design - Quartz is a manufactured product and the manufacturing process allows for a wide range of colour options and finish.

Durable - It is as durable as concrete or granite and will not chip or crack easily. This type of countertop will last you for years without compromise on colours.

 

Non Porous - Materials that are non porous can resist juice, wine, oil, coffee and other source of stains in the kitchen so it will not harbour bacteria or viruses. 

Low Maintenance - Surface of the countertop lets you easily wipe away stains and dirt without using chemicals.

Cons

PriceQuartz in general is more expensive than solid surface.

Design - Seams are visible and usually finished off with same colour touch up materials like silicone. However this is usually not a real issue for most people.

As quartz comes in standard sizes, they must be fixed side by side with a visible seam when the length of the kitchen cabinets is too large. 

Heat - Quartz is very durable against heat but granite still fares better when doing comparison.

Granite

Pros

Design - Natural product with a timeless aura and appeal. Granite tops are usually the center piece of attraction in the kitchen as the natural grains are a real beauty and available in a wide variety of colours and finish.

Scratch Resistant - It is a hard substance and not susceptible to scratches, it takes normal wear and tear very well.

 

Heat Resistant - Granite is very resistant to heat and very ideal in near range to cooking hobs as the material will not be damaged or weakened.

Phenolic Panel

Pros

Design - Slim-line design (6mm) for those who prefer a more sleek and modern look. Available in wood grain design for this type of material.

Durability - Heat resistant, flame resistant and water proof. Resistant to abrasion, scratches and impact. 

 

Non Porous - Materials that are non porous can resist juice, wine, oil, coffee and other source of stains in the kitchen so it will not harbour bacteria or viruses. 

Low Maintenance - Surface of the countertop lets you easily wipe away stains and dirt without using chemicals.

Cons

Price - Phenolic panel is more expensive when compared to solid surface.

Design - While this type of panel differentiates itself from the competition for its thickness, the slim design may not be accepted by everybody.
